VETEREA: Ancient Capua reborn digitally

On 28 October 2025, the Teatro Garibaldi in Santa Maria Capua Vetere provided the setting for the official presentation of VETEREA – A digital twin discovering Capua Vetere, the project that transforms historical heritage into an immersive experience thanks to digital technologies.

Sponsored by the Municipality of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and funded with PNRR funds as part of Spoke 9 of the i-NEST Consortium, the project was coordinated by SPICI Srl in collaboration with the Interdepartmental Research Centre “Alberto Calza Bini” of the University of Naples Federico II.

An initiative that shows how innovation can become a bridge between the past and the future: during the event, representatives from institutions, academia, and research discussed the potential of digital technologies in making culture more accessible, interactive, and shared.

The highlight of the day was the new VETEREA app, a platform that allows exploration of the history and places of ancient Capua Vetere through interactive digital experiences and immersive reconstructions: a true “digital twin” of the Roman city, designed to bring citizens and visitors closer to its extraordinary heritage.

The morning concluded with the official handover of the project's materials to the Municipality of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, testament to a virtuous collaboration between public bodies, universities, and businesses that combines technology, culture, and innovation.
