Project Description
The EDIH Heritage Smart Lab is one of the 136 European Digital Innovation Hubs funded by the European Commission with the objective of accelerating the digital transformation of SMEs and Public Administration, with particular focus on sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, High-Performance Computing, and Cybersecurity. Thanks to its multidisciplinary structure, the lab supports the digitalization of enterprises, improving the efficiency and competitiveness of the services offered.
With facilities in Naples, Matera, and Bari, Heritage Smart Lab is the only hub in Italy completely dedicated to the digital transformation of Cultural Heritage and Cultural and Creative Industries, a key sector in the Smart Specialization Strategies of Campania, Basilicata, and Puglia. Located in East Naples, the centre serves as a reference point for startups, SMEs, and European and Italian Public Administration, offering a wide range of services for experimentation, funding, advanced training, and collaborative innovation. The activities of the lab include digital prototyping, Open Innovation programs, technological brokerage, matchmaking between innovation demand and supply, networking, and sector events, contributing to the growth of the cultural and creative ecosystem.
SPICI plays a key role within the Heritage Smart Lab, providing advanced solutions and services for the digitalisation of the cultural and creative sectors. The services provided by SPICI are:
FOR PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
TEST BEFORE INVESTMENT
Design of the Technological Intervention: Designing technological solutions to improve services and organisational processes in the field of cultural and creative goods and services.
Technological Scouting: Searching for existing digital solutions to meet specific Public Administration needs.
Proof of Concept (PoC): Development of an initial simplified and testable version of the product or service, to assess its feasibility and increase its Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
Prototype Development: Support for the creation and testing of a technological prototype, focusing on design and functional aspects in the real context.
NETWORKING
Demo Day for Public Administration: A meeting day between Public Administration, innovators, and technology providers.
FOR COMPANIES
TEST BEFORE INVESTMENT
Audit and Technological Orientation: An assessment and technological orientation path aimed at enhancing and upgrading a solution through AI and more generally emerging technologies.

Demo Day for Companies: An event dedicated to the presentation of digital solutions for culture, promoting the meeting between demand and supply of innovation.
Through these activities, SPICI contributes concretely to the modernisation of the Italian cultural and creative heritage, promoting synergy between the world of research, companies, and new technologies.
